The best workout equipment and gear to make your home feel like a gym

The best workout equipment and gear to make your home feel like a gym

As businesses have begun to cautiously open their doors to consumers, gyms are still in precarious position. COVID-19 is spread through respiratory droplets, and even the fanciest gyms are a fluid-fest of germs. I’m not saying it’s a more dangerous place to be than, say, the post office. But I am suggesting that you delay your return to a closed space where several people are grunting, sweating, and wiping their faces in endorphin-fueled glee (god, I miss the gym).

I know you’re under-stimulated though — bored of apps and using cast iron pans as makeshift free weights. So here’s some awesome, innovative gear you can add to your home gym to make working out at home more fun. Go ahead and get those gainz without stepping into a weight room a minute before it’s safe to.

Focusing on your tempo can be one of the most effective tools for workouts, especially if you don’t have a ton of equipment handy to vary up your reps. In this lower body routine from trainer Jeremy Scott, creator of the Men’s Health Action Hero Jacked fitness series, you’ll work deliberately through every portion of each exercise to increase your muscles’ total time under tension—and through that, the effect you can have on their stimulus to grow.

For this routine, you can use what you’ve got. While Scott performs these exercises with dumbbells, he explains that you can also take it on with your bodyweight or whatever you have lying around the house (suitcase, golden retriever, etc.) as resistance. And, if you don’t have a bench at home, a sturdy chair, ottoman, or couch works perfectly.

Burpee Workout Deconstructs the Exercise for Safe Home Fitness

Burpee Workout Deconstructs the Exercise for Safe Home Fitness

Men’s Health/Eric Rosati

You’re likely doing most of your workouts at home still, and that means that you have less space, less equipment, and a less ideal setup than you would in your old gym from the before times. For some people, that might mean lots of bodyweight routines and high-energy jumping moves like burpees. You might be trying to avoid jumping around in your house to be courteous to everyone around you—but for other people, including top trainers, you might be even more deliberate in your decision to skip out on the burpees.

“If there’s one move that has the fitness world polarized, it’s the burpee,” says trainer Charlee Atkins, C.S.C.S. “I believe the burpee doesn’t translate well to every day use, and therefore I don’t include it in my routines.”

Instead of totally ignoring the exercise, though, Atkins puts the focus on the burpee’s component parts. “Most people

Children from across the world joined the 30-minute session, which was aimed at everyone from toddlers to secondary school pupils.

Due to its popularity, Wicks, also known as The Body Coach, has been hosting the sessions every day since.

While the lessons are aimed at children, many adults have been taking part too and sharing their involvement on social media.

Here’s how you can get involved in the popular PE lessons.

The live workout takes place every week day at 9am GMT.

The class lasts for 30 minutes, which includes a

NHS launches free HIIT and pilates workout videos

The NHS has announced free weekly HIIT and pilates online classes.

The new offering is through a partnership with Instructor Live, with an Introduction to HIIT course as well as Introduction to Pilates.

The first video for both courses can be viewed on YouTube, and the NHS says there will be new videos each Tuesday and Thursday.

It tweeted: “We’ve teamed up with fitness experts @InstructorLive to bring you some exciting new workout courses.”

While the new workout videos aren’t explicitly in tandem with the news that people who suffer from diabetes (both type 1 and 2) and those who are obese are more at risk of fatality from COVID-19 , today the NHS has also announced it’s expanding its offer to help those with diabetes during the pandemic.

It says: “People living with diabetes face a significantly higher risk of dying with COVID-19 with a third of deaths in

We love our workout leggings — but we can’t help but think about what else is out there. As the summer heat starts to creep up on Us, it’s hard to stay completely covered while working out. Who wants to pile on extra layers when the temperatures are already hot enough as it is?

If you want to get the same shapewear sensation that leggings provide without the extra coverage, then these workout shorts could be the ideal addition to your activewear drawer. They are high-waisted, just like many of the top-rated full-length leggings on the market, but the fabric stops at the top of the thigh region. Talk about a seasonal win!

The 5-Minute Workout You Can Do Between Zoom Meetings

The 5-Minute Workout You Can Do Between Zoom Meetings

When we first started this whole quarantine-at-home thing, we thought we’d have more time on our hands. No commute, no problem, we’ll definitely spend that hour working out and eating healthy. But eight weeks and a fridge full of banana bread later, we still can’t seem to find the time. Between the Zoom calls, take-out runs and homeschool sessions, any semblance of a workout routine went straight out the window (along with our dignity and desire to wear pants). But the success of a Tuesday isn’t measured by the hours you spend in your at-home gym. In fact, engaging in physical activity for even a few minutes a day can have a huge impact on your mental and physical well-being.

“Right now, getting up and moving is more important than ever as we’re stuck sitting for longer and longer periods of time,” Annie Mulgrew, VP and Founding Instructor of CITYROW
